Fresh into fashion, the ready-to-wear powerhouse of Gyo Kim and his partner, Yuni Choe, Fashion Scout’s Merit Award winner for SS/15, excelled today for day two of London Fashion Week.
On winning the Merit Award they said: “We are so honoured to be selected as the winner. The Merit Award is the best opportunity for new designers to show their vision and creativity,”
The show took place on a classic white catwalk which set off the pieces beautifully. The collection was an androgynous take on military uniform, which saw florals and hues of indigo, khaki, coal and sky blue translated on unstructured silhouettes.
Details included, floral ruffles, apron ties, drawstring toggles, buttoned collars, large square pockets and strip panelling. The clean and overall contemporary style and cut of the pieces were suitably ‘jazzed up’ with these above and beyond details.
As the show ended, models remerged in heavier parka style coats and macs, which held a continuation of the floral themes seen earlier. Oversized pod shapes, ruffled hoods and structured pockets were also shown.
The military-meets-gardener-wages concept was strong throughout. Aesthetically, the collection was pleasing and very wearable. The flecks of floral softened the military and uniformed concept, drawing the eye for all the right reasons.
In all, the collection was impactful and showcased the clinical tenacity of the designers. They certainly proved themselves deserving of the prestigious Merit Award. What a win.
